I enjoy being a proposal photographer as well as a wedding photographer. It’s that once-in-a-lifetime event before the bigger once-in-a-lifetime event and all those that follow.

From the simple to the complex, it’s a chance to be on the ‘inside,’ staking out a location ahead of your arrival to capture the surprise.

While the scenarios vary, the essence is the same. I’m a photographer and you want beautiful photos. “Mission Accomplished,” to borrow a phrase.

It’s rare, but on at least one recent occasion I did spot another photographer working in the vicinity while I waited for my subjects to arrive. She was wearing a company t-shirt, so clearly not incognito. Probably shooting a save-the-date session, I’m thinking.

Weeks later I stumbled upon a website. So many options…

Many photographers work this way. They offer a multitude of “packages.”

Couple alone?

Family portraits with child?

Family with two children?

Family with two children under six years of age?

Family with three children over two feet tall?

I’m exaggerating a bit, but you get the idea…

I basically work hourly, with flat rates for packages based on the hours most sessions will require. Simple is good sometimes, and you have enough to figure out. Hiring a photographer shouldn’t be any harder than it has to be.

Then there’s the question of delivery. Do you want four photos? 16 images? (See what I mean?)

How can you know before you’ve seen them? I offer rights-inclusive, all digital delivery so you receive the entire edited session soon after our time together.

You can order prints online through my website or another. I can design albums, or you can handle that yourself. Not everyone wants to over complicate their life when step one is having the event photographed.

You have a lot on your mind whether you’re planning to propose, announce your engagement to the world or putting together a celebration for a larger group like a friends or family reunion.

If it’s photography for a family of four in Big Indian, 14 in Windham or 140 in Tannersville, the session will require the appropriate amount of time to capture the desired images and some candid coverage of the event. An event photographer has to ‘know their stuff’ to plan accordingly. Folks have expressed time after time that I do. We discuss the details ahead of time, so you’ll know what to expect and I’ll know how to plan. Of course, things don’t always unfold as expected, and that’s where experience comes into play. I know the goal and what to look for whether it’s an out-in-the-open sort of portrait shoot, or an undercover surprise.

Jonathan made it “easy … simple … low stress … comfortable …” folks say.

I always think back to some kind words shared by the father of the bride at a wedding years ago near Albany. She was the sister of a bride I had photographed a few years earlier outside of Hudson.

“I wish I had more daughters for you to photograph,” he said – surely a measure of the pride he felt that day, but also an endorsement for my low-key and thorough approach to capturing the ceremonies and festivities.

Whether the ring is already bought, or you’re still shopping. If you have a vision for how you’ll ask or only a sense of where, I can help make the moment memorable … certainly help you to remember the moment – which happens in an instant.

When the day comes, photography will be the very last thing you will want to worry about.

Or as Bob Marley sang, ‘Every little ‘ting gonna be alright…”

Let me help you worry less and celebrate the moment more.

It’s what I do!
