Nora reached out like other clients do. She asked if I took family photos or portraits. She asked if I was available a particular weekend or a range of dates

Of course I do, and I was available for at least part of her window of opportunity. After we booked, we had to make adjustments but we made it work. No problem.

“I always take pictures of my sons,’ she said, adding “but there are never photos of all of us.”

Also, there are dogs. A lot of love, energy and movement; right up my alley!

Special occasion? Just a weekend away with the boys in Windham, NY, and as any mother can probably tell you, time with your children is cause enough.

I photograph a lot of families at local hotels or AirBnBs, weekend homes in the mountains, wherever they may be. No matter where, or how many, there is always one common thread … nobody is ever quite ready at the appointed time. There’s always a sleepy-eyed baby or little one, someone in need of a change, or someone on the road, soon to arrive.

No worries. These sessions are often entered around one group shot large … or small

But along the way there are opportunities for portraits of individuals, or pets, chances to connect with the client or moments to scope out the surroundings for possible backdrops and points of interest for the photos that will follow.

Nora and her sons made for a particularly relaxed session. There was no agenda, clock ticking, no reservations to keep afterward. Just some memories to be made.

A few weeks earlier, I photographed a family at a rental near Windham Mountain on another ridge overlooking what’s now known as a “Club.” There were sons, there was a dog, but there was also an occasion. A 75th birthday..a guest of honor. Every session creates captured moments for loved ones, few or many.

I photograph weddings and other once in a lifetime events, where the memories might be leafed through in albums for years to come. I also photograph simple weekends away, where a print or two might be framed for the bookshelf or on the wall beside the fridge.

Moments in time like a weekend away with your children, your pets, your parents…I can be there to capture them. Give me a call. Or a shout. Or a text……

Nora and her sons made the most of this one, as we walked around the property looking for opportunities. Looking back on the photos I’m reminded the largest obstacle to perfect portraits was the fact her eyes were often on them. The reason the weekend was booked and the reason I was there.

Is there a moment, major or minor coming up that you would like a little help documenting? From proposals to weddings, birthdays to bar mitzvahs (ok, almost the same in a way), reunions, anniversaries or weekends away with the kids, I capture them all.

Let’s chat about the photos you’ll be glad you have years from now to look back and remember those moments with.
